چکیده

During experimental evaluations of RPL on a network with some 20 Zolertia Z1 motes running Contiki version 2.6, inconsistent Packet Delivery Ratios (PDR) and message latencies were frequently observed. Replacing ContikiMAC by NullRDC brought consistency, proving that the problem had to be found in the Radio Duty Cyling (RDC) protocol. Two implementation issues of ContikiMAC were found guilty. The first is the timing of the inter-packet interval related to the interval between two successive Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) probes. The second is the choice of the value of the CCA threshold. These issues will be analyzed in this poster, a satisfactory work-around has been implemented and some to be tested alternatives are proposed. *

Technical Report : ContikiMAC vs X-MAC performance analysis

ContikiMAC is a radio protocol that allows nodes to communicate while keeping their radio turned off most of the time. The radio duty-cycle of ContikiMAC can be as low as 1%. To signal an incoming frame to a receiver, ContikiMAC repeatedly sends the full data frame until it is acknowledged by the receiver. This approach might seem less efficient than what older radio duty cycle protocols have b...

The ContikiMAC Radio Duty Cycling Protocol

Low-power wireless devices must keep their radio transceivers off as much as possible to reach a low power consumption, but must wake up often enough to be able to receive communication from their neighbors. This report describes the ContikiMAC radio duty cycling mechanism, the default radio duty cycling mechanism in Contiki 2.5, which uses a power efficient wake-up mechanism with a set of timi...

Countering Three Denial-of-Sleep Attacks on ContikiMAC

Like virtually all media access control (MAC) protocols for 802.15.4 networks, also ContikiMAC is vulnerable to various denial-of-sleep attacks. The focus of this paper is on countering three specific denial-of-sleep attacks on ContikiMAC, namely ding-dong ditching, pulse-delay attacks, and collision attacks. Ding-dong ditching is when attackers emit interference, inject frames, or replay frame...

(Re)Enabling support for the CC2420 chip on the TinyOS Simulator

Simulation tools for networked devices are a valuable resource to speed up software development. • TOSSIM (TinyOS SIMulator)[1] is a network simulator that is part of TinyOS [2] (an operating system for networked wireless sensors). • The CC2420 chip [3] is a radio frequency transciever used in many wireless sensor devices. The TOSSIM maintained as part of the main TinyOS trunk does not implemen...

Low Power and Low Latency MAC Protocol: Dynamic Control of Radio Duty Cycle

In low-power and lossy networks (LLNs), power-constrained devices consume most of power to communicate with their neighbors. To save power, traditional MAC protocols usually turn off RF transceivers while there is no radio communication. Since RF transceivers consume most of their energy in idle listening, turning RF transceivers off can save significant amount of energy. However, delay of pack...
